Enrol your children in schools or go to jail – Senate bill

64,821Posted inEducation, News, Nigeria2 minutes

The Senate has passed for first reading a bill that recommends a fine of N50,000 to parents who default in providing their children with primary and secondary school education.

The Red Chamber also recommended free meals for every child in the country.

The bill proposed by Senator Orji Kalu titled, ‘Compulsory free Universal Basic Education Act 2004, Section 2’ states that every government in Nigeria shall provide free, compulsory and universal basic education for every child of primary and junior secondary school age.”

The act further states that “Every parent shall ensure that his child or ward attends and completes his primary school education and junior secondary school education by endeavouring to send the child to primary and junior secondary schools.”

“The Act further states that stakeholders in education in a local government area shall ensure that every parent or person who has the care and custody of a child performs the duty imposed on him under section 2(2) of this Act.”

The act further noted that a parent who contravenes the earlier prescription should be liable, on the first conviction, to be reprimanded.

“On a second conviction, a fine of N2,000 or imprisonment for a term of one month or both; and on subsequent conviction, to a fine of N5,000 or imprisonment for a term of two months or to both.”

The Senate, however, in its amendment, proposed N50,000 fines, instead of the N5,000 previously stated in the Act.

It stated, “A person who receives or obtains any fee contrary to the provisions of subsection (1) of this section commits an offence and is liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding N10,000 or imprisonment for a term of three months or to both.

“Every parent shall ensure that his child receives full-time education suitable to his age, ability and aptitude by regular attendance at schools.”

However, the Senate proposes, N100,000 in replacement of the N10,000.

The Senate proposed, “Section 3(2) of the Principal Act is amended by deleting N10,000 and inserting N100,000.”

Responding to this development, the Programme Coordinator for Basic Education at Reform Education, Nigeria, Ayodamola Oluwatoyin, in an interview with reporters, noted that while the move by the lawmakers seems commendable, there should be an investigation into the additional charges by the public schools across the country.

Thanks for the breakdown, it gave me a clearer picture of something I had been confused about for a while now, and a stop at mossharboroutpost closed the remaining gaps in my understanding nicely, no need to hunt around twenty other articles to put the pieces together which is a real time saver.

Signed up with this casino for roughly four months, so the first impression stage is well past. A mate at work mentioned it, mainly because the bonus terms elsewhere were ridiculous. The Revery Play lobby covers the main bases, combining slots with a respectable live section.

Software comes from Pragmatic Play, NetEnt, Play’n GO, Evolution for the live side. Sweet Bonanza and Gates of Olympus are front and centre, but I gravitate toward the high volatility section. Live casino is Evolution, which covers roulette, blackjack and the wheel games. Dealers are on twenty-four seven, but low stake tables get busy in the evening.

The introductory package at Revery Play is a 100 percent match up to 200 pounds with free spins. Rollover is thirty-five times the bonus, not the worst but not a gift either. Active bonus terms can be checked on reveryplay before depositing. They run ongoing promotions beyond the welcome deal.

The floor is ten pounds. Cards and PayPal are accepted. PayPal payouts arrived quickly, bank transfers ran a couple of days. Verification was the standard KYC — driving licence and a utility bill, cleared in a few hours.

Mobile is browser based and performance is smooth. No app needed, which I prefer anyway. The chat team replies within minutes and they read the question before answering. They hold a Curacao licence, so not UKGC, which is worth knowing. Payouts have always come through for me.

Solid value for anyone willing to read carefully, and a look at berrycovevault extends that value across the rest of the site, this is the kind of place that rewards return visits rather than offering everything in a single splashy post and then leaving readers nothing to come back for later which is unfortunately common.

Excellent post, balanced and well organised without showing off, and a stop at dawnridgeemporium continued in that same vein, this site has clearly figured out the formula for content that works for readers rather than for search engine ranking signals which is harder than it sounds today and worth real recognition from anyone.

Honest reaction is that this is the kind of writing I would defend in a conversation about good blog content, and a look at apricotharbortrading reinforced that, the rare site whose work I would actively recommend rather than just tolerate is the kind I want to support through return visits regularly.

Took me back a step or two on an assumption I had been making, and a stop at maverickmint pushed that reconsideration further, writing that gently corrects the reader without being aggressive about it is a rare diplomatic skill and the team here clearly knows how to land critical points without turning readers off.

Been playing at this casino since around Easter, so the first impression stage is well past. Came across it while looking for a new UK casino, mainly because the bonus terms elsewhere were ridiculous. The game selection here covers the main bases, combining slots with a respectable live section.

The games are supplied by Pragmatic Play, NetEnt, Play’n GO, Red Tiger and a few boutique studios. Sweet Bonanza and Gates of Olympus are front and centre, although the Megaways games are my go-to. Live casino is Evolution, which covers roulette, blackjack and the wheel games. Tables are staffed day and night, but low stake tables get busy in the evening.

The welcome bonus at Revery Play offers a matched deposit plus spins. The playthrough sits at 35x, fairly standard for this market. Current offers and promo codes can be checked on revery play before you commit funds. There are weekly reload offers.

Minimum deposit is ten pounds. Visa, Mastercard, PayPal and Paysafecard go through smoothly. PayPal payouts arrived quickly, bank transfers ran a couple of days. Identity verification went smoothly — uploaded ID and it was approved overnight.

On the phone I play through the browser and performance is smooth. You play through the site, which I prefer anyway. Customer service is available around the clock and the agents are helpful. They hold a Curacao licence, so be aware of that going in. Payouts have always come through for me.
