Oil Theft: Troops seal illegal refining site in Delta

In sustenance of the war against oil theft, troops of 181 Amphibious Battalion of the Nigerian Army (NA), weekend uncovered a major illegal refining site at Owahwa community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State.

The operation was carried out in collaboration with personnel of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and men of Tantita Security on Saturday.

A statement yesterday by spokesman for the Army, Brig.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, said the troops discovered 35 modular ovens used for illegal refining of crude oil, three fabricated reservoirs, 30 dug out reservoirs and 75 galvanized pipes during the operation.

Nwachukwu said the sting operation followed a surveillance report on the illicit activities of illegal oil refiners in the area.
