Gunmen kill two policemen, FRSC officials in Enugu

Gunmen attacked the Orba and Eha-Alumona towns in Enugu State’s Nsukka and Udenu local government areas, killing four people, including two police officers and two Federal Road Safety Corps officials.

According to reports, the attack occurred just 24 hours after two police officers on a stop-and-search operation were attacked and killed by gunmen in the state capital, less than a kilometre from the Government House.

During the attack, which claimed the lives of police officers and FRSC officials, our correspondent learned that it began at the Premier intersection at Eha-Alumona in the Nsukka LGA and progressed to the Army Checkpoint at Orba village in Udenu LGA around 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Other police officers and FRSC officials who were present at the scene of the attack escaped with varying degrees of injury after the gunmen set fire to a van belonging to road safety officials and a Hilux van reportedly belonging to Patrick Eze, aka Igwe Waziri, the traditional ruler of Egali Amalla Community in Udenu LGA.

When asked for comment, Kanayo Uzuegbu, the state commissioner of police, told reporters, “I was not aware of the incident.” Please contact the police public relations officer about that.”

Attempts to contact the PPRO, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, were unsuccessful since he did not answer his phone or respond to a text message sent to his mobile number as of the time of publishing this report.

Meanwhile, in response to the incident, state governor Peter Mbah vowed to catch the culprits using all of the government’s resources.
