Ex-chief of Naval staff sue ex-wife, former minister Diezani for using his name

31,001Posted inNews, Nigeria4 minutes

A former Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Alison Madueke, has filed a petition in the Lagos State High Court, seeking a legal declaration to end his marriage to Diezani and requesting that she stop using his last name.

He is asking the court to order the former Minister of Petroleum Resources to revert to her maiden name, Agama.

This was contained in Madueke’s petition for jactitation of marriage (declaration that a marital union has ended).

The ex-Chief of Naval Staff argues that Diezani’s ongoing use of his name despite their marriage being legally over is damaging to his reputation and could lead to unintended consequences, including mistaken liability, particularly given the corruption allegations against her.

Madueke is a former military governor of Anambra and Imo states. He married Diezani on June 30, 1999, under the Marriage Act.

The petitioner, Madueke, noted that Diezani had previously filed for divorce at the Nassarawa State High Court in Mararaba Gurku in November 2021, citing an irreconcilable breakdown of their marriage, seeking to end their union formally.

He said he did not oppose the suit, resulting in the court’s dissolution of the marriage, yet Diezani persists in using his surname, despite the formal termination of their marital union.

He stated, “On the 13th day of April 2022, judgment was delivered in Suit No. NSD/MG345/2021 by Hon. Justice A.A. Ozegya dissolving the marriage between the petitioner and the respondent on the ground that the marriage has broken down irretrievably.

“The said dissolution of marriage has now become absolute by the operation of law.

“Even though the marriage has been dissolved and is now legally finalised, the respondent continues to use the petitioner’s first name (Alison) and surname (Madueke) as her own without any justification or consent from the petitioner.

“It is now more than two-years that the respondent continues to use the name of the petitioner to his embarrassment.”

Madueke revealed that he directed his legal representatives to serve Diezani a formal request on December 14, 2023, demanding that she cease using his surname and revert to her maiden name, Agama.

However, despite this legal notice, Diezani has failed to respond and continues to use his name.

The petition further read, “The respondent has continued to hold out herself as the wife of the petitioner even when the marriage has been dissolved.

“The respondent is undergoing criminal trials in both Nigeria and the United Kingdom. The charge in Nigeria is Suit No. FUC/ABI/CR/208/2010.

“The respondent faces public allegations of corruption and financial misconduct, for which trials are ongoing for both.

“The persistent portrayal of the respondent as the spouse of the petitioner is creating embarrassment, a misleading impression and tarnishing the reputation, integrity, and public image of the petitioner.

“The respondent’s continued use of the petitioner’s first and surname falsely suggests to the public a continuing relationship between the parties though same has since legally ended.

“The respondent’s continued use of the petitioner’s first and family names poses a significant risk of legal and financial harm to the petitioner.

“The petitioner seeks the intervention of this Honourable Court to prevent the respondent from further using his first name and surname, thereby safeguarding his image, personality, and reputation.”

Madueke sought an order of perpetual injunction restraining Diezani from further using his names following the dissolution of their marriage.

He also prayed for a perpetual injunction restraining the respondent from further asserting, by words or conduct, the existence of marriage between them.

He is seeking a court order that compels Diezani to revert to her maiden name and to publicly announce in a national newspaper, both in Nigeria and the UK, that she has ceased using his surname.

Diezani has held several significant positions in the Nigerian government, including Minister of Transportation, Minister of Mines and Steel Development, and Minister of Petroleum Resources.

She was also the first female President of the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, elected in November 2014.

Diezani was accused by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission of embezzling $2.5bn from the Nigerian government during her tenure from 2010 to 2015 under President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.

Corruption allegations have led to her arrest and legal proceedings in both Nigeria and the United Kingdom.

Been playing on Craybet for about a couple months and wanted to share some thoughts because there’s not many posts about this place on here. Registered on a whim and the whole process literally took 90 seconds. Minimum deposit is $10 which is about what you’d expect. Got a sign-up bonus — 100 percent match to $500 and 50 free spins on Sweet Bonanza. Wagering was 35x which is kinda average but not the worst I’ve seen.

The game library is bigger than I expected. There’s titles from Pragmatic Play, NetEnt, and Microgaming — so like Gates of Olympus, Gonzo’s Quest, that kind of thing. I’d guess maybe a couple thousand titles total if you count everything. Live dealer stuff is powered by Evolution and it’s smooth — played some roulette and Lightning Roulette with actual croupiers and zero lag issues.

One thing I wasn’t thrilled about was how long cashouts take. Withdrew via Visa and waited about 48 hours the first time. Once you’re verified though things sped up. They accept Visa, Mastercard, e-wallets like Skrill and Neteller, and BTC which covers most bases. You can look at their current offers on Craybet welcome bonus before you sign up.

Mobile experience on Craybet from my iPhone is actually smooth. There’s no app to download but the mobile site is responsive and everything works without issues. I played Book of Dead on the bus and no lag or glitches.

Customer service on Craybet has been okay — live chat that gets you a person pretty quick usually. I contacted them about a bonus that didn’t credit and got it fixed pretty quickly. Licensing is Curacao licensed which is what most offshore casinos. Wouldn’t say it’s perfect — the bonus wagering could be lower — but as a daily player I keep coming back.

I’ve been using Craybet for roughly six weeks or so and thought I’d throw out my experience since there isn’t much discussion about this place in this forum. Registered on a whim and registration literally took two minutes. Minimum deposit is ten bucks which is about what you’d expect. Got a welcome bonus — 100% up to $500 and fifty free spins on Sweet Bonanza. Playthrough requirements were 35x which could be lower but it’s manageable.

The game library is decent honestly. They’ve got titles from Pragmatic Play, Betsoft, plus Play’n GO — meaning Gates of Olympus, Gonzo’s Quest, all the popular ones. Somewhere around 2000 games including table games. Live dealer stuff is powered by Evolution and it’s smooth — played some baccarat and Crazy Time with actual croupiers and zero lag issues.

One thing that kinda bugged me was payout speed. Tried cashing out with Bitcoin and it took almost two days the first time. Once you’re verified though things sped up. They accept Visa, Mastercard, e-wallets like Skrill and Neteller, and crypto which covers pretty much everything you’d want. You can check out the full bonus details over at svnewtech if you’re interested.

Using Craybet from my iPhone is actually smooth. No dedicated app though the web app loads fast and slots and live games work without issues. Was playing a few sessions on my commute and had zero performance issues.

Support at Craybet has been alright — there’s a chat widget that gets you a person within a few minutes most times. I contacted them about a pending withdrawal and got it fixed pretty quickly. Licensing is Curacao-based from what I can tell and that’s typical of platforms like this. Not everything is amazing — wish they had more payment options — but overall it does the job for me.

I’ve been playing on Craybet for like two months now and wanted to share what I think because there’s not a ton of talk about this place on here. Registered randomly one night and registration took maybe two minutes. Starting deposit was $10 and that’s normal for US-facing sites. They threw in a sign-up bonus — matched my first deposit 100% up to 500 plus 50 free spins on Gates of Olympus. Playthrough requirements were 35x which isn’t amazing but I’ve dealt with worse.

The game library is honestly pretty solid. You’ll find games from Pragmatic Play, Evolution, plus Play’n GO — so like Book of Dead, Gonzo’s Quest, all the popular ones. Probably close to 1500-2000 slots total if you count everything. Live dealer stuff uses Evolution which is smooth — played some roulette and Lightning Roulette with real dealers and it worked great.

One thing that annoyed me a little was payout speed. Withdrew via Bitcoin and waited like a day and a half the first time. Once you’re verified though things sped up. They accept Visa, Mastercard, Skrill, Neteller, and BTC which covers most bases. I’d look at what they’ve got going on over at Craybet mobile app to see for yourself.

Mobile experience on Craybet on my phone was surprisingly good. I didn’t find a native app though the browser version runs well and all the games load fine. I played a few sessions on my commute and no problems.

Support at Craybet has been alright — live chat that gets you a person within a few minutes most times. I contacted them about a bonus that didn’t credit and got it fixed same day. Licensing is operating under a Curacao license and that’s standard for US-friendly sites. Wouldn’t say it’s perfect — wish they had more payment options — but for what it is I keep coming back.
