Borno set up ban against metal scavenging

Governor Babagana Zulum has declared a ban on metal scavenging in Borno State following an on-the-spot evaluation of the finding of a huge amount of metal scraps thought to be government property.

The governor, while on a project site visit, stumbled discovered enormous quantities of metal scraps, many of which were thought to be property of federal authorities and the Borno State Government.

Speaking with journalists, the governor stated that over the last few years, approximately a thousand people have been killed in the state as a result of metal scavenging, and that some people go to extremes in the business, allegedly stealing public property such as street light poles and tanks belonging to telecommunications companies, among other things.

Governor Zulum further stated that certain automobiles in the local government are purportedly destroyed by people involved in the Scavenging industry, emphasizing that the government would not tolerate such nefarious acts.
