16 dies, 17 injured in Ibadan multiple crashes
The Federal Road Safety Commission, on Tuesday, confirmed that 16 persons died while 17 were injured in an early morning multiple road crash at the Agbowo end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The FRSC reports stated that 35 persons were involved in the road accident out of which 16 died on the spot while the injured ones were recuperating at the Hamdalat Hospital, Agbowo, in the Ibadan North Local Government Area of the state.
The accident, which happened at the Agbowo/Ajao area involved a truck loaded with roofing sheets with number plate AKM 548 ZY, an 18-seater passenger Hummer bus, MUB 20LG, Micra taxi, BDJ 520YC, and Honda CR-V SUV, KRD 707 ER.

Witnesses told our correspondent that the corpses of the deceased victims had been deposited at the morgue of the State Hospital.
An eyewitness who pleaded anonymity said, “The roofing sheet loaded trucks rammed into the four other affected vehicles.
“The accident, which was attributed to a brake failure, coupled with the ongoing construction works on the highway caused a gridlock on the expressway.
“The passers-by thought that the accident could have been averted had it been the Federal Government sped up the construction work on the highway.”
It was further that the vehicles were restricted to only one lane, thereby making vehicular movement extremely difficult.
‘The construction firm handling the project should open up the other lane to ease the traffic congestion in the area,” a passerby urged.
