Nigeria is mourning the death of Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, a 29-year-old journalist and lawyer with Arise News, who was killed during an armed robbery at her home in Katampe, Abuja, on September 29, 2025.

The incident has sparked outrage nationwide, with residents and civil society groups warning that rising violent crime, including robbery and abductions, is spreading into Abuja and undermining public confidence in safety.

Businessman Prince Onwa Nwafor Orizu described Maduagwu as a brilliant young professional and a rare gem whose life was cut short in her prime.

He extended condolences to her family and colleagues, while urging security agencies to bring her killers to justice, stressing that “this heinous crime must not go unpunished.”
