Peter Obi accuses Tinubu govt of fueling Labour Party crisis
Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, has alleged that the ongoing leadership crisis within the party is being orchestrated and maintained by the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
Obi, who governed Anambra State from 2006 to 2014, made this statement during an interview on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Monday, June 9, 2025.
He squarely blamed the federal government for the internal disputes that have rocked the Labour Party in recent times.
“This is what you get, always, right? This is what you get always in Nigeria, because we now live in a country of propaganda and lies – and they manufacture it,” Obi said.
He went further to accuse the current administration of deliberately sowing discord within political parties and even private lives.
“The problem we have in Labour Party is problem instigated and sustained by the government of today.
“I don’t need to tell you when you have a party chairman who calls a state governor a dwarf and dwarf thinking. Forget about me, so it’s not weak.
“Okay, I’m weak, but it’s not weak. Is every other person there weak? So we’re not sincere with ourselves.
“You speak the truth and they call you names. And we now live in a country of propaganda and lies. They are trying to put problems everywhere, they want to even put problems in families,” he added.
The Labour Party has been embroiled in a leadership tussle in recent months, with various factions laying claim to the national chairmanship position.
Obi’s comments suggest a belief that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is exploiting the situation to weaken opposition voices ahead of the 2027 general elections.
