Hakimi crowned African Footballer of the Year 2025
Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi has been crowned the 2025 CAF Men’s Player of the Year, sealing his place among Africa’s football greats.
The 27-year-old full-back clinched the honour at a glittering gala in Rabat on Wednesday night, beating Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen and Egypt’s Mohamed Salah to the continent’s top individual prize.
Hakimi’s win marks a historic moment — he is the first Moroccan to claim the award since Mustapha Hadji in 1998.
The Paris Saint-Germain star enjoyed a stunning 2024/25 season, playing a pivotal role as PSG swept the Ligue 1 title, the French Cup, and the UEFA Champions League.
Nigeria’s Osimhen, who won the award in 2023, and Ademola Lookman, crowned in 2024, both missed out this year.
In the women’s category, Nigeria’s Rasheedat Ajibade was edged out by Morocco’s Ghizlane Chebbak for the CAF Women’s Player of the Year title. Ajibade had led the Super Falcons to a record-extending 10th WAFCON triumph, starring as Woman of the Match in three of their six games and earning the tournament’s Best Player award.
Nigeria still celebrated major wins on the night:
• Chiamaka Nnadozie secured her third consecutive Golden Glove, and
• The Super Falcons were crowned Women’s National Team of the Year.
