Eid-el-Fitr: FG declares Monday, Tuesday as public holidays

The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Monday and Tuesday as public holidays in observance of this year’s Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.

The announcement was made on Wednesday by Magdalene Ajani, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, in an official statement.

Eid-el-Fitr, a festival celebrated by Muslims worldwide, marks the end of Ramadan, a month of fasting lasting 29 or 30 days.

In his remarks, the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, called on Muslims to embody the values of self-discipline, compassion, generosity, and peace. He stressed the significance of love, forgiveness, and unity in fostering a cohesive society.

The minister urged Nigerians to use the occasion to pray for the nation’s peace, stability, and prosperity, adding that Eid-el-Fitr should serve as a catalyst for unity and collective progress.

“Dr. Tunji-Ojo also encouraged citizens to celebrate with caution and responsibility, while extending kindness and charity to the less fortunate—a reflection of Ramadan’s true spirit,” the statement noted.

“On behalf of the Federal Government, he conveyed warm Eid Mubarak greetings to all Muslim faithful, praying that the season’s blessings bring joy, success, and fulfilment to everyone.”
