
Badaru resigns as Defence Minister
Nigeria’s defence minister, Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has resigned his appointment, with immediate effect.
This is contained in a statement by the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Monday in Abuja.
Onanuga said in a letter dated December 1, sent to President Bola Tinubu, the Minister disclosed that he was resigning on health grounds.
According to the statement, President Tinubu has accepted the resignation and thanked Badaru for his services to the nation.
The statement further said that President Tinubu will likely inform the Senate of Badaru’s successor later this week.
Gong-news reports that the 63-year-old Badaru was a two-term governor of Jigawa state from 2015 to 2023. He was appointed as a minister on August 21, 2023, by President Tinubu.
His resignation is coming following President Tinubu’s declaration of a national security emergency.
